I know that we are still focused, rightly so, on the flipping of Orange County and the still incomplete House votes in CA, but here’s another piece of sweet election news from the SF Examiner. Gordon Mar was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors from District 4.
A Dem elected to the SF Board of Supervisors? Ho-hum.
Well, not exactly:
“You have perhaps now the most left-leaning person on the board taking over the most conservative district in the city. If you’re a moderate there is a lot of place to lay blame. If you are a progressive you are thrilled,” said David Latterman, a political consultant.
If you think you recognize the name, you may well. HIs twin brother Eric served two terms on the Board from District 1. Gordon has led Jobs With Justice in the Bay Area for years, as it won many important labor victories, especially for unorganized and undocumented workers. You might have seen him at Netroots Nation 2015, where he talked about the just-victorious campaign to pass the landmark Retail Workers Bill of Rights, a model for the whole country.
With the whole Bay Area being inundated by Silicon Valley capital, the city needs fighters like Gordon Mar.
